Apple has released a small security update for Mac users running macOS High Sierra 10.13.4. Mac users running High Sierra, Sierra, and El Capitan will also find an update to Safari available. Separately, a small update versioned as iOS 11.3.1 was released for iPhone and iPad users.
The software update for macOS High Sierra is labeled as “Security Update 2018-001 (High Sierra)” and is said to be “recommended for all users and improves the security of macOS”.
Mac users with El Capitan, Sierra, and High Sierra, also will find “Safari 11.1” available as a software update.
The easiest way for Mac users with High Sierra to install the latest security update and Safari update is to go through the Mac App Store. Always back up the Mac before installing any system software update.
Installing Security Update 2018-001 for High Sierra & Safari 11.1 for Mac OS
- Go to the Apple menu and go to “App Store”
- Go to the “Updates” tab and locate “Security Update 2018-001” to download and install it
- Additionally, look for “Safari 11.1” and download and install that
Installing security updates require the Mac to reboot.
Alternatively, Mac High Sierra users can choose to download the Security Update 2018-001 (High Sierra) as a package file from the Apple Support downloads page.
It does not appear that any additional security updates are available for prior versions of Mac OS system software, making “Security Update 2018-002” (Sierra and El Capitan, respectively) the most recently available security software patches available for Macs running Sierra and El Capitan.
The iPhone and iPad also received a minor software update today with iOS 11.3.1.
