Looks great. Can you do the same with a playstation 3 or ps4?

Yes you can play Plex Stream on PS4 but you have to use the built-in Playstation web browser and navigate to the IP address of the Plex Server. Maybe there’s another way, but that’s how I have seen it.

      Much easier on Xbox One.

This looks great thanks for the walkthrough, I think this solidified my decision to buy an Xbox One, been looking at next-gen consoles for a while.

If you have Windows it’s even easier than this, you can just use the Windows Media Center app in Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. Opening any video at all into Windows Media Center in new versions will allow the stream to be played to and opened on Xbox One. Just right click on the video and choose “Play To” then select the Xbox One, piece of cake.

Plex is a great solution for Mac and Linux to Xbox One or to Playstation.

You can also stream video files to Xbox One or PS4 from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Android with any DNLA compatible app. One that is pretty popular is the mconnect app:

    iOS version:

    Android version:

No need to pay for DNLA streaming!

Windows Media Center is not available in Windows 10.

What replaces Windows Media Player in Windows 10? You can’t play videos in Windows 10? Is that a Windows 11 feature? They removed the media player so they can bring it back again, like the Start menu? Way to go Microsoft, almost as cool as when Apple removed stability and Wi-Fi from OS X Yosemite to bring it back again in El Capitan ooooh haaaayooo!

It’s Media CENTER that is missing , not media player. You can install something like “Universal Media server” on windows 10 to replace windows media center. Then, the PS4 or xbox one will see your media server if you open the “media player” FREE app. Do not pay for anything to do this. Unfortunately, microsoft is again trying to copy of apple with “apps” and totally missing the mark. Only a fool would pay to stream your own media from your computer to your xbox.

This is silly :) Simply right click on your media file (in Explorer – IE navigate to your file via This Computer) and select “Cast To” and choose your target, also ensure media streaming is enabled on your system. It’s as simple as that – nothing extra required.

One thing I’m not able to correctly get working using Media Player and Plex are external subtitles. So I’m using Universal Media Player and it’s easy and more straightforward.

Same here, UMS streams video better than my Raspberry Pi running OSMC. Pi UPNP can’t play an 8GB MKV movie, where UMS plays it flawlessly.

The PS4 has a new media player app which works just like the Xbox version. You can stream everything to the app.

The method I currently use is MediaBrowser . I can stream using IE on the XB1, Media Player on the XB1, or by pushing it to DLNA and using Videos on the XB1. It’s the best method I’ve found so far.

I use the Device Playback in Vuze for this feature. Just click on the device you want to send the files to and then drag and drop the files into the window. Vuze will show up as a source of the Xbox and you can play the file. It’s very easy. We don’t have a Playstation but I would image it’s the same process.

I’m getting an error when trying this. The error presents on the xbox when I try to open the videos folder. The videos are .m4v and I didn’t see that specifically above. Is that the issue?

I use ArkMS installed on my old Mac Mini. It streams flawlessly video to TVs and XBox One.

Thanks for a great review! I’d recommend using ArkMS if you want to stream all your media from Mac to T or any other devices. I use this app and totally satisfied, works without any bugs and very user-friendly and the price is very convenient.
